I'm currently working on a very compelling documentary about a woman who touched and continues to influence the lives of many. Starting in the 60's as dancer, dance instructor and then as an activist and professor, Angela Bowen has been affecting and shaping the lives of people, giving them hope and belief in themselves and their potential.
Working from scratch with ocumentarian Jennifer Abod we are sculpting this doc from the ground up.
I was very pleased this spring to be asked back to revise the Single Payer Video for California OneCare.
I had done the original animations and graphics and I got a chance to spruce a few of them up.
To the right is the new title card, taking advantage of that popular mirrored look.
This last year I worked on a great little documentary short called "THE YIN & YANG OF RANDY LAWRENCE (14:56 mins) I created the lower 3rds and some animation and the titles. I also smoothed
out a few pacing ssues. But for the most part the doc was put together by Letitia Schwrtz & Judith Vogelsang. Yin and
Yang was an official entry in the Short
Film Corner of the Cannes Film Festival 2009. It was also an official selection of
the 2009 New Jersey International Film Festival at Rutgers University.
Judy, Leticia and I also got to work together on "Humble Beauty: Skid Row Artists (59:53 mins) is an Official Selection of the 2009 New Jersey International Film Festival at Rutgers University. Visit their website at: http://www.humblebeauty.com
"A Woman In The West" -
After working with Jeremy Lanni, of Noble Savage Productions, on his Rocumentary, we got together to do "A Woman In The West", based on a true story about his grandmother. It was a blast. Shot on HD, I posted it here on my desktop. I also created the Poster and authored his DVD.
Recently, I saw it on the big screen at the LA Shorts Fest, I have to admit it looked pretty good.
a documentary from Jennifer Abod.
I just love working with Jennifer.
Her docs are always about something important. Here, I fixed audio, tightened up a few cuts, provided some lower 3rds and color correction. This is a moving accounting of the work and life of Audre Lorde.
I got called in to help put the finishing touches on this one. It is about ageisim and activism and it is intended for women young and old, and for the men who care about the women in their lives.
Last year I sat down with the Brady brothers and cut the pilot of their sports game show "the Rest of the Best." ....
.....We were going to take it to Vegas in 2008 but both the producer and myself had family crisis' that led to postponement!
Fox Sports had signed off on it and we're going to start shooting at the Las Vegas Hilton in December '08. Steve Hartman, of CBS and Sports Center, was the host and Vic "the brick" Jacobs ("feeling you!") will be a judge with a special celebrity host judge every week to pick the fan who can pitch the best about his favorite sports star.
I picked up this little piece from the same folks that were doing the sports game show, called "Rest of the Best" and my friends at Command Digital LA.
It's a talk show with Eric Dickerson. It has a behind the scenes confidental feel to it. In this episode Eric Interviews Charles Barkley.
I used After Effects, Photoshop and Final Cut Pro for this one. I edited down the segments to tidbits using FCP and then processed them in AE. Then I brought them back to FCP to time with the music.
This is a fun movie.
I came to it through my friends a Command Digital LA. It had been edited by my friend David Harris (an AVID Editor) some years back and since been re-edited in FCP. But Len Austrevich, the films writer/director/star, wanted to go back to some of David's edits but the originial version had been lost in a hard drive disaster. So David called me in to reserect the project in FCP, which I did, and to do the re-edit.
At the end of a long extended weekend we had a blend of old and new.
It's a dark querky comedy and I enjoyed working on it. I even found myself laughing out loud, which I don't always do(I laugh on the inside ;). If it gets out there I can easily see it developing a cult following and people going around repeating tidbits of dialog.
Names in the film include, Marty Ingles, Andy Dick, Dan Castellaneta, Paul Provenza, Richard Jeni, Larry Miller, Dana Gould, Rick Overton, Robert Hines, Lin Shaye, and Len Austrevich, plus many more.
50k Balls follows 4 boys through the trials, tribulations, and rewards they experience during a year of USTA tennis.
When I got involved in the project they had a rough cut. My job was to make it look good & add some graphics. The producer, Tom Pura(father of TJ Pura, one of the boys) was great to work with and is really interested in getting involved with the new technology.
It's his first doc and he did a relatively good job with it. I can't wait to see what he does next.
This is a BillBoard he rented at Sunset & Highland (Mid Feb-March 2008).
It's the first time any doc I've worked on got such a prominent launch.

Post Note: I was saddened to learn than on July 1, 2008 Tom Pura, died suddenly of a heart attach. I owe a lot to this man. In the short time I worked with him he instilled in me a new sense of self-esteme for my work. It was a joy to work for him and I'm very sadden at his loss.
This was one of the most amazing experiences of my life...so far :-)
The footage was amazing, the hours were grueling and the people were a blast. I've never had so much fun working so hard since I was rehersing a musical going toward opening night.
The project was rapped under an NDA so I can't show you any clips or footage or even mention which major university it was for.
I did learn a lot about RED workflow, how much it differs from SD and that my ideas and skills do translate well.
I got to design transitions in Final Cut Pro and then implement them in AfterEffects and work with a team of fantastic and talented people.
I'm all for universal health care and equal healthcare for all. I even worked on a video for the SB-840 campaign. So when the task force asked me to create a website I was more than happy too. I'm also the webmaster.
Created in Photoshop, Fireworks and Dreamweaver.
Rock'n'Roll Animals is a documentary about Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter, two outrageous lead guitarists that helped shape the sound of Rock and Roll. They played with Alice Cooper, Lou Reed, Areosmith and many more.
This year I had the pleasure of working with John McDonald on his documentary, "The Ghost Moutain Experiment." He called me in to work on the graphics. I worked in After Effects and Photoshop to restore 100's of photos and animate them for the documentary. The cinemaphotography is exceptional and the story is compelling.
Back with my webmaster hat on I have been working with Jerri Sher and Emmet Miller Sr. MD on the website for Live Life, a movie about Dr. Miller's work using the mind to heal the body.
I had the wonderful experience of working with the folks at CrewNeck Productions this summer on an A&E 2 hour Special "Teen Rockers". I served as the night editor and worked on 4 of the 9 segments of the show.
It will be airing on November 5th on A&E.
Premonition is about a young woman's journey with the prospect of motherhood. Abandoned by her man she goes home to mother. But is the future more than she bargoned for?
A short film by Chistopher Bythewood and Roman Gabriel. I was fortunate enough to link up with these two filmmakers and they gave me to opportunity to edit their short film. It was inspirational working with them.
Click here to view the Trailer I put together for them.
We're close to finishing "Healthcare Solution: California OneCare." We Premiered this summer and the response was very positive. I'll have a trailer online as soon as possible.
OneCareNow is an organization promoting Cal State Senate Bill SB 840 that will bring comprehensive health care to all california residents. A really worthwhile cause and one that I'm proud to support.
The video will show in no less than 365 cities in California this next year.
"Transnational TRADESWOMEN"
a Vivian Price documentary
What a pleasure it was to work with Vivian on this piece about the lives of women construction workers the world over.
I acted as more of a consultant and layed out some styles and workflows to help her tighten things up.
For more about her film visit her webpage on Without a Box.
Just finished working on this one. "Insh'Allah", a short film by Yehuda Maayan. This work was all green screen. I did the greenscreen in AfterEffects because I couldn't get the filters in Final Cut to give me the subtle details I needed from the DV footage.
In the middle of 2005 Diannah was nominated to the membership chair on the Board of Cinewomen,
